In their first three years as owners of the 8,000-acre spread, the Madsens replaced all the wiring, water and plumbing systems and renovated three of the original log structures - a cookhouse, a bunk house and the main ranch house.
"If we'd known what we were going to end up doing, we might never have bought it. It was much more expensive than we thought it would be, and most of the money went for things you never see. Redecorating the walls and buying new furniture is just the tip of it," said Barbara Madsen.
"But if your going to restore old buildings, there's no halfway. It's a very ambitious undertaking."
The results are astonishing. So much so that Bob Villa's "Restore America" brought a TV crew to the TA for an indepth feature on the restoration project.
