Horseback Riding FAQs
What is the weight limit for riding?
225 pounds. At the TA Ranch, we have a very strict weight limit for all of our riders for the safety of our guests, staff, and horses.
Do I get to pick my own horse when I go for a ride?
No. We have many different kinds of horses that all excel in different things. Each horse will be picked out specifically based on the rider and what kind of ride they will be taking.
If the guest is staying for more than 2-3 days and/or is participating in a cattle working ride or a cattle drive, there may be an opportunity to change horses depending on rider level and horse availability.
Can I bring my own horse?
For the safety and health of all of our animals, we are very strict about not allowing outside horses (or any other type of animal) on the property.
Are there other opportunities to be with the horses other than riding?
Yes! We have over 60 horses at the ranch. Each year, we also add a few foals to our herd, so there is usually plenty of opportunity to interact with the foals! We also offer horse training demonstrations to our guests that are staying on the ranch, so they will have an in depth session on how we train our horses and get them ready for their future jobs.
Can I ride if I have never ridden before?
Yes of course! All of our guest horses are beginner safe and excel at helping build confidence in their riders. When our guests come to the ranch, they will also talk to ranch staff and wranglers in more detail about their experience (or lack thereof).
What should I wear on my horseback ride?
At the TA Ranch, we require that all of our horseback riders wear long pants (preferably without holes) and closed toed shoes (preferably with a heel). We also recommend that our guests wear a thin, long-sleeved shirt, especially on longer rides. Though it is very hot, long sleeved sun shirts typically keep you cool while also protecting you from the sun.
